EYELASH EXTENSIONS FAQ's
What are Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions?
Eyelash extensions are strands of synthetic faux-mink eyelashes shaped to replicate a natural lash. They are not what are referred to as “individuals”, “clusters” or “strips” which are applied on your lash line with a sticky eyelash/hair glue.
How are Eyelash Extensions applied?
A gel pad or sensitive tape will be applied under your eyes to cover your lower lashes. Eyelash Extensions are applied against each individual natural eyelash one by one with a surgical bonding adhesive to lengthen and thicken your own natural eyelashes. The lash extensions nor the adhesive will touch the skin. The application can last 1.5 to 3.5 hours for a full set depending on the type of full set requested. Refill appointments can last 45 minutes to 2 hours.
Are Eyelash Extensions safe?
Yes, it is a pain-free application while lying down on a massage/facial table with your eyes closed. Eyelash Extensions do not damage your natural eyelashes if they are applied properly; it actually promotes the growth of your lashes during each lash growth cycle (every 28-35 days).
How do I prepare for my appointments?
Arrive with your face and eyelashes clean and free of any make-up including mascara, any oils or any glue on your eyelashes from previous eyelash applications. IF YOU HAVE ANY MAKE-UP OR GLUE ON YOUR EYES, A $10.00 MAKE-UP REMOVAL FEE WILL BE ASSESSED. This will also take away from your appointment time allotted for the application of your lash extensions. Also avoid consuming caffeine (soda, tea, coffee, energy drinks) on the day of, prior to your appointment, as it can make your eyes flutter.
How long do Semi-Permanent Eyelash Extensions last?
They are semi-permanent, not permanent. Eyelash Extensions will shed out with your natural eyelashes and can last 4-6 weeks without a refill depending on your lifestyle and day to day activities. Refills are recommended every 2-3 weeks for maintenance and fullness. After a full set, a refill is recommended at 2 weeks to assess the lash cycle before deciding the maintenance schedule. At least 40% of your lash extensions need to be intact to receive a refill, otherwise a full set will be required. Premature shedding happens when the eyelash extensions detach from the natural lash due to oil, dirt, makeup, sweat, tears, swimming, sleeping, medications, hot steamy showers and facial products, which may require more frequent refills.
How do I care for my Eyelash Extensions?
- Clean your eyelash extensions with lash shampoo (available for purchase).
- Do not rub/scratch your eyes or pick/pull at your lashes.
- Allow 24 hours before washing your lashes, sweating or swimming.
- Avoid hot steamy showers, leave the door open.
- Avoid oil-based make-up products, especially those that are applied on or around the lash line.
- Use oil-free make-up remover to remove eye make-up.
- Any cleansers, creams, eye make-up removers and lotions containing glycols and carbonates can loosen the adhesive and cause your lash extensions to shed.
- Brush your eyelash extensions daily with your mascara wand using lash cleanser (available for purchase).
- Avoid sleeping on your face, use a silk pillowcase and/or lash mask while sleeping (available for purchase).
Can I use mascara on my Eyelash Extensions?
The use of mascara is not recommended. However, a water-based (not waterproof) eyelash extension mascara can be worn but continuous use of mascara will cause your lash extensions to shed faster. If using mascara, apply from mid-lash to the tip only…do not apply from the base up.
How are Eyelash Extensions removed?
DO NOT REMOVE THEM YOURSELF or you will pull out your natural eyelashes. Contact your Eyelash Extension Stylist for an appointment. The procedure is quick and painless by using a gel/cream lash extension remover. The remover is applied and will sit for 5 minutes giving the stylist the opportunity to slide off the extensions without damaging your natural lashes. This procedure can take up to 30 minutes.
Can I get my Eyelash Extensions wet?
Yes, you can get your lash extensions wet. You may wash your face using your normal routine, but it is recommended that you use a lash cleanser on/around your eyes. You may swim in chlorine and/or the ocean safely with your lash extensions, but be aware that it may cause them to shed faster than normal.
Can everyone wear Eyelash Extensions?
Unfortunately, eyelash extensions are not suitable for everyone. Those with severe allergies that cause constant rubbing and/or tearing of the eye or specific medical/skin conditions are not recommended to wear lash extensions. If you find that you’re allergic to the lash extensive adhesive, you may not be able to maintain wearing eyelash extensions. Reactions/side effects may include itching, swelling and severe redness of the eye. If this happens, please contact your Eyelash Extension Stylist immediately. If this happens, you may take an allergy medication and apply cortisone cream around the eye on the skin. Do not use Visine or medicated eye drops, use saline only to flush your eye(s) if redness occurs.
